Barguna Nari Jagaron Karmosuchi – JAGO NARI

JAGO NARI is a women-led, women-focused development and humanitarian organization based in the central coastal region of Bangladesh. Established in 1998, JAGO NARI has been a driving
force in promoting gender equality, women’s empowerment, and
community resilience through locally led and inclusive approaches.
With over 25 years of experience, the organization has built strong credibility in delivering impactful programs in Disaster
Risk Reduction (DRR), climate change adaptation, anticipatory humanitarian action, and social development.

JAGO NARI is entirely guided by women leadership, with a 31-member General Board and a 7-member Executive Board composed exclusively of women. Around 46% of the organization’s staff are women, and over 90% of project beneficiaries are women and children. This leadership structure reflects the organization’s core belief in feminist
principles and inclusive decision-making. All of JAGO NARI’s interventions are designed to promote the well-being, rights,
and leadership of women and marginalized communities.

The organization has implemented over 50 humanitarian and development projects, reaching more than one million people, especially vulnerable women, children, and people in
disaster-prone areas. JAGO NARI is a trusted partner of leading humanitarian actors including WFP, Oxfam in Bangladesh,
Save the Children, CARE Bangladesh, Action Against Hunger (ACF),
and the Start Network. Following Cyclone Remal in May 2024,
JAGO NARI implemented 15 emergency response projects
that provided food, cash, water, hygiene kits, and shelter
support to more than 200,000 people. Additionally,
the organization restored 15 km of damaged embankments
and roads, rehabilitated 50 cyclone shelters with WASH facilities, and rebuilt 22 schools to resume education in affected communities.

JAGO NARI also plays a coordinating role in the humanitarian sector as the lead organization of the Needs Assessment Working Group in the central coastal region, bringing together 27 local NGOs to ensure joint planning, data collection, and inclusive responses. The organization actively participates in national and international coordination platforms such as the Cash Working Group, WASH Cluster, Food Security Cluster, and Shelter Cluster. It is an accredited observer of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and a recognized organization by UNCCD, with regular engagement in global policy forums like GPDRR, Sendai Framework Midterm Review, and the High-Level Political Forum in the USA.

Volunteering is a core pillar of JAGO NARI’s work. The organization has built and trained a strong pool of youth volunteers, particularly adolescent girls and boys, who are engaged in community risk awareness, climate resilience, social campaigns, and emergency preparedness. JAGO NARI invests heavily in volunteer capacity development, providing regular training on leadership, gender-based violence prevention, digital reporting tools, and community feedback and response mechanisms (CFRM). With its feminist vision, inclusive governance, and community-driven approach, JAGO NARI continues to lead transformative change in some of the most disaster-affected and vulnerable regions of Bangladesh.
