Mahideb Jubo Somaj Kallayan Somity (MJSKS) started its journey as a non–profit making organization formed by some local youth while working for settlement of Bangladeshis returning from India after the liberation war 1971. Since 1972, MJSKS has been working with the most vulnerable population in Kurigram, Lalmonirhat and Rangpur districts considering the local needs with the vision “To uplift the socio-economic conditions of the vulnerable community”

MJSKS is registered from NGO affairs Bureau of Bangladesh government and have affiliation with DUNS and PADOR. Director is the contact person of the organization.

MJSKS installed household latrine and community latrine, tube-well, upgrade and constructed tube-well platform with Arsenic test. Constructed sanitation complex, footpath cum drainage, community bath house and water supply. MJSKS provided hygiene kits to prevent from COVID infection, installed hand washing device and assist to COVID vaccination campaign. Organize mass awareness on social and health issues.

MJSKS has been making volunteerism among the youth and adolescent through training and awareness activities. Provides tools/livestock asset support, job placement, agricultural technology transfer, savings creation and leadership development.

MJSKS operate Non-Formal Primary Education and provide education materials, furniture, maintenance of school building, established school library, organize science fair, training, meeting, workshop and exchange visit for ensuring quality education.

MJSKS promoting gender equity, sexual and reproductive health rights, Menstrual Hygiene management. Supplementary food for pregnant and lactating mother, Growth Monitoring and Promotion for children, homestead gardening and tree plantation.

MJSKS promotes local Humanitarian Leadership, Capacity development of local organizations regarding quality and faster emergency response. MJSKS capacities Disaster Volunteer and provide them search & rescue equipment, advocacy for policy influencing and linkage with private sector and government services. MJSKS raised homestead and community level plinth, Constructed school cum flood shelter, houses for displaced family.

Who We Work With?

  1. MJSKS has been working with the excluded and vulnerable communities. Main focus to the poor and extreme poor household from religious and occupational minority, day laborer, landless and asset less, marginalized farmer, climate vulnerable people, victim of Gender based violence, people living in the char, roadside and embankment.
  2. Right now MJSKS has partnership with Care Bangladesh, Save the children, Oxfam in Bangladesh, Plan International Bangladesh, ChildAid Network, NETZ Bangladesh, Kadoorie Charitable Foundation, Manusher Jonno Foundation, HEKS/EPER, Habitat for Humanity Bangladesh, Swiss contact, Handicap International-Humanity & Inclusion, JT International Bangladesh limited. 
  3. MJSKS work with Government Technical Training Center (TTC), livestock, agriculture, social service, women affairs department, youth development, Public health engineering, Cooperative department, education, health & family planning etc.  
  4. MJSKS also work with the private sector like; agriculture and livestock input supplier (seed, fertilizer, pesticide, feed and medicine), microfinance organization, handicraft, ICT training providers. 

Who Benefits from Our Programs?

Within the long development journey, MJSKS has served the poor people 1,16,457 under Livelihood, 5,44,392 under Health, hygiene, water, sanitation and nutrition, 88,280 under Empowerment and Education, 3,80,078 under Humanitarian assistance and 22,692 under Governance sector. Type of beneficiaries is women, youth, adolescent, children, farmer and person with disability.

Successes and Victories in Implementing

MJSKS has been working in three vulnerable district of north Bangladesh to contribute to MDG, SDG which relate with government development plan. MJSKS has long reputation with local government administration, partners and the community. It’s also associated with different national and international network. 

MJSKS has extend its services to 11,51,899 marginalized people. MJSKS has received 3 types of award and several appreciations by the government of Bangladesh and different partners for its transparency, accountability, and innovation.

  2. Ministry of Woman Affairs and UNFPA on Good practice competition for the contribution of “Dedication and sincerity towards ending violence Against Women”
  3. Recognizing as best NGO practices using ICTs from ‘The eNGO Challenge South Asia 2015’ provided by Digital Experiment Foundation, India.

MJSKS initiate need base, innovative, environment friendly and sustainable climate resilient program for the most vulnerable community in connection with reducing poverty, improve human potentiality, increase skill and knowledge, changing attitude and ensuring the best practices. Implement child and women friendly disaster risk reduction program considering localization. Advocacy on policy influencing is integral part of its work.   

As result of MJSKS work, a significant change is seen in the community regarding poverty alleviation, preparedness to decrease loses of disaster, reduced water borne diseases, improved health-hygiene condition, changing mind set of men towards women, increased dignity of women in decision making process, improved access to services, promoting right to information and complain mechanism system.
