WHAT WE DO

The group aims to ensure that local humanitarian leadership (LHL) approaches are considered & embedded in any humanitarian preparedness, response, recovery and changing approaches. The scope can be country, regional and/or global depending on emerging needs. Core of the practice group is programmatic; however, it should inform/support the Influencing work where/when required. Since most of the local organizations in the LHL network work beyond response, we also aim to work in the triple Nexus goals of development, peacebuilding, and response.

Among the gaps seen by the group is low representation of Women’s Rights Organization (WRO) in its ranks. Effective humanitarian response requires promoting and strengthening women’s leadership in local humanitarian action. Supporting women and women’s organizations to play key leadership roles in the humanitarian sector and in community DRR, relief, and recovery efforts—helping them highlight the confidence and voice that is so often muted—is an overarching objective of the practice group too. This will help reduce gender inequality, increase inclusion/diversity, and improve the effectiveness of humanitarian action. Hence, we continue to look for WROs to join the practice group.
